Gordon Korman’s Books
Gordon Korman just gets middle schoolers. After all, he published his first book AS a middle schooler. Not all of his books are funny, but many are, particularly for 11 year olds. The Unteachables is my kids’ personal favorite.
The Way Things Work Now
Who knew engineering could be so entertaining? The Way Things Work Now uses wooly mammoths to bring in the humor. Kids love the illustrations, and they will learn as they read.
Wayside School
Wayside School makes regular schools look so… normal! This book is full of Louis Sachar’s trademark wacky (and somewhat dark) humor.

Let’s face it. Most of what makes it into the history books is genuinely horrible. Kids know it, and I think that’s a big piece of why the unapologetic Horrible Histories series is so popular.
